Polish Economy 2026: Labor Market, Costs, and Location Signals

Current official data – translated into concrete consequences for German companies setting up a team, shared service center, IT hub, logistics, or production site in Poland.

Data as of: September 27, 2026Live page updated monthlyPrimary sources instead of provider surveys
Short answer: Poland is growing robustly in 2026, while wage, service, and construction cost pressures remain relevant. The labor market has not collapsed: employment in the corporate sector is slightly below last year, but wages continue to rise significantly. For location projects, this means: Poland remains attractive, but the business case must be supported by access to talent, productivity, manageability, and scalability – not by the assumption of permanently low costs.

Monthly update September 2026: The preliminary GDP estimate for Q2 was revised from 3.8 to 3.9 percent year-on-year. For August, GUS reports 3.4 percent consumer price inflation, 5.6 percent nominal wage growth, and still 0.8 percent lower employment in the corporate sector than a year ago. For 2027, the statutory minimum wage is set at 4,950 PLN gross per month.

Labor market: no surplus of candidates, but selective opportunities

The average employment in the corporate sector in August 2026 was 0.8 percent below the previous year’s level and fell 0.2 percent compared to July. At the same time, the average gross wage grew nominally by 5.6 percent compared to August 2025; compared to July, it decreased by 2.6 percent. This combination is crucial for new employers: there is occasional movement in the market, but no reliable basis for generally lower salary assumptions.

The most recently published seasonally adjusted number of registered unemployed was around 931,200 in July. This national figure says little about Java architects in Wrocław, finance leads in Kraków, shift supervisors in Łódź, or quality engineers in Silesia. For each project, role, city, language, seniority, and work model must be validated separately.

Consequence: In the launch check, three salary scenarios, the realistic search duration for key roles, and a retention budget should be calculated. A location is only “more favorable” if it delivers the required performance with an acceptable vacancy, leadership, and turnover burden.

The statutory minimum in 2026 is 4,806 PLN gross per month. From January 1, 2027, it will rise to 4,950 PLN; the minimum hourly wage will be set at 32.30 PLN. For qualified functions, these values are not market benchmarks, but they are relevant for salary architecture, internal differentials, and the cost base of operational roles. Employer cost side separates social contributions, PPK, and other setup costs.

IT and Business Services: large base, high expectations of the employer

IT/ICT

PARP counts more than 100,000 ICT companies and nearly 3,000 medium-sized firms. The share of ICT specialists in employment rose to 4.3 percent, but it is below the EU average of 4.8 percent. This does not indicate a lack of IT competence, but rather intense competition for experienced specialists in cloud, cybersecurity, AI, platforms, and product-related development.

A new team should therefore not only advertise with salary. Mandate, technical responsibility, product proximity, local leadership, and fast selection processes determine whether an unknown employer can compete against established product companies and consulting firms. Shared services and GBS

PAIH consolidates more than 2,000 business service centers and over 480,000 employees for 2025. Nine locations each exceed 10,000 employees; Warsaw and Kraków are over 100,000. This creates proven talent and leadership pools, but also increases competition for experienced process owners and multilingual profiles.

The right starting point is therefore not ‘Which city is the cheapest?’, but: Which processes can be standardized, which responsibilities remain in Germany, which lead roles must be established first, and how is knowledge transferred? The Operating model comparison SSC, GBS or specialized team organizes this decision.

Logistics and production

The prices of construction and assembly production in August 2026 were 6.2 percent higher than the previous year and 0.3 percent higher than in July. For areas, renovation, technical infrastructure, and ramp-up, an old budget basis quickly becomes unusable. At the same time, exports of 961.0 billion PLN and imports of 979.6 billion PLN from January to July show the scale of Polish industrial and supply chain integration; the balance was −18.6 billion PLN.

Before committing to a location, at least property, approval and renovation path, key roles, shift model, suppliers, ERP/MES/WMS, quality responsibility, and ramp-up curve should be included in a common scenario. The guides for this serve the purpose of Logistics locations and Production sites in mechanical engineering.

What decision-makers should specifically update now

  1. Business case: Do not carry forward wage, service, and construction costs from 2024 or 2025.
  2. Role plan: Test key roles before volume roles and document real candidate reactions.
  3. Location comparison: Calculate the same roles, salary bands, and scaling scenarios for at most two serious cities.
  4. Leadership: Set local mandate, reporting, and handover timing before starting recruitment.
  5. Exit criteria: Define at which talent, cost, or time values a NO-GO applies.
  6. Update cycle: Review assumptions quarterly against official data and real project observations.

Free Poland Readiness Check shows which of these foundations are already robust. The Poland Launch Check Transfer it into a project-specific GO/NO-GO template.

Frequently asked questions about the Poland Launch Monitor

Will Poland still be an attractive location in 2026?

Poland can be economically attractive, but not universally because of low wages. Access to talent, productivity, vacancy time, leadership, service costs, and scaling must be calculated together for the specific target scenario.

Does declining employment mean recruiting becomes easier?

Not automatically. National employment trends say little about individual cities and specialized roles. Availability should be tested with specific profiles, salary bands, and candidate responses.

Which data should be included in a site comparison?

At a minimum, role availability, salary development, competition, office or space costs, accessibility, leadership pipeline, service providers, and scaling from the initial team to the target team.
